Directions

1. To preparethe garlic butter steak recipe with potatoes wedges: In a large bowl, combine the steak strips with soy sauce, olive oil, pepper, and hot sauce. Set aside and allow steakstripsto marinate while you cook potatoes.

2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, mix 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter. When butter is melted, add potatoes wedges. Cook for about 4 minutes, stir and cook an additional 4-5 minutes until potatoes wedges are golden and fork-tender. Transfer sauteed potatoesto a plate and set aside.

3. Keep the same skillet over medium heat and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter, garlic, red chili pepper flakes, and fresh herbs. Lay the steak strips in one layer in the skillet, keeping the drained steak marinade for later. Cook thesteak strips on each side for 1 minute each, until nicely browned – adjust timing depending on how you like your steak.

4. Right before the Garlic Butter steak is done, you can stir in the reserved marinade if you like and cook for one minute. Add the potato wedges back to the garlic butter steak pan and heat through. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if necessary.

5. Remove from heat and serve immediately your steak and potatoes, garnished with more crushed chili pepper, fresh herbs, and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese over the potatoes if you like. Enjoy!

Tips for the steak and potatoes recipe

  • You can precook the potato wedges in boiling salted water for 8 minutes before browning them. This will accelerate the potatoes cooking time in the skillet and ensure a nice golden crust on the potatoes.
  • To make the perfect steak recipe to accompany your potatoes, you can choose a good piece of meat that is more tender than flank steaks, such as ribeye steak, tenderloin, strip loin, orstrip steak.
  • Avoid crowding the pan with the beef strips; proceedin batches if necessary so you won’t have steamed steak instead!

What Should I Serve with Steak?

Well, this steak and potatoes recipe is a meal in itself, but feel free to add your own twist. Serve the steak with roasted asparagus, for example. Roasted carrots would also make a nice addition. If you’re a garlic lover, roast a full head of garlic sliced horizontally and wrapped in foil for 20-30 minutes and serve it along with the steak and potatoes.

How long can I keep the steak leftovers?

Steak and potato leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, but we bet you won’t have any and will end up with a clean plate!

Very tasty but I marinated the meat all day and next time I’ll marinate it overnight. I also pad cooked the potatoes. Easy and fast to put together. I served with roasted asparagus. Hubby loved it.

Theres no way raw potatoes cook in 8 minutes in a skillet.

This was a decent recipe. But the potatoes were no where near done, should have boiled them for a bit before putting them in a frying pan.

Have made this four times now. It is one of our favorites, absolutely love it.For the hot sauce we use the Hot Ones Garlic Fresno instead of Sriracha though, since it's hard to find. Also really ups the garlic flavor!

    2023-08-01 09:10:48

Great recipe! It was me first time cooking steak and it turned out perfect. I only had a pound of steak and a pound of baby red tomatoes but it worked just fine. I didn’t have Sriracha and I only had low sodium soy sauce but I did have sriracha Mayo and it was just fine. I suggest adding some garlic salt for a little extra garlic flavor. Also I tossed some cooked green beans in at the end. There were no leftovers :)

  • Brittany

    2023-07-03 18:27:45

This recipe is great! I use low sodium soy sauce and add a little more then a third of a cup. I also add garlic to the marinade and the seasoning Adobe from Goya (I use that seasoning on everything, usually in place of salt and pepper.) For the potatoes I do brown them in the skillet, but I cook them for a lot longer then the suggested 4 mins. I just cook as long as needed, stirring them pretty consistently. I also season the potatoes separately using adobe and garlic. I cook the steak in batches and then put all of the meat in with the rest of the marinade at the end. Sitting the potatoes in at the end and spreading the sauce around to cover everything. 10 out of 10!!!

This dish was fantastic! This served 3 and was plenty for all of us. Only taking away a star because we all felt it could use a bit more garlic and soy sauce, but was great once more was added! Will definitely make this again

I did the precook on the potatoes which definitely helped to tenderize them. The recipe was good, and easy to follow, but seemed a bit salty.

It’s been over 2 years I’ve been making this recipe. Must say my family loves it. It’s been our go to recipe. Making few adjustments such as no rosemary since my family doesn’t like, as the potatoes I bake them in the oven instead of frying in the pan. Thank you for this great recipe.

Was absolutly delicous! Could use more garlic and soysuace. Also the hotness of the hotsuace isnt to much, and adds so much flavor so dont skip it!Would definitely make again!

Made this tonight for Valentine's Day dinner. Since we have cooked flank steak in the past, we knew that it really needed to marinate longer. We put it in the marinade in the morning and let it sit all day in the frig. We also par cooked the potatoes. We added some par cooked green beans at the end. Added a bit of oyster sauce. It was amazing. Definitely a keeper. Thank you!

My fiance wanted to try this recipe out so we did, he rarely cooks but he seemed excited about this one. He took the lead in the kitchen and once the flavors started filling our kitchen, I was like, dang this is gonna be so fire. I was right! I’m eating our steak and potatoes right now as I type this, he did such a good job. I’m proud of him, and thank you so much for this recipe. A good memory was made from your dish.

Made this for my Thursday night quick fix dinner. Sooooo friggin good. If you like your potatoes more on the crispy side, pour the marinade on after the steak is done cooking and let brown for 10-15 min. Soooooo delicious. Best steak i ever Made!

    2022-11-14 22:24:58

SO good! I made this for my husband and me and he asked for it again two days later lol. It's now in our regular routine. A couple of notes: balance your hot sauce with the pepper flakes. I overdid the flakes the first time and since I also used a pretty hot sauce it was way too much. lol. But the second time I just threw in 3 dashes of pepper flakes and with our sauce, it was perfect, even for my spice-loving husband. We ADORE this recipe. Thank you! PS: Serve it with a bacon Caesar salad - it's a great pairing!

  • Angela

    2022-11-12 11:14:51

This was great. Added extra garlic and seasoning to compensate for not using hot sauce (I am delicate lol). It turned out really well. The tip about boiling potatoes first worked well for getting the crispy layer on them. I look forward to making this again.

I can’t do chili’s etc so I just used soy sauce, the herbs and about 1/3+ cup of honey. Last minute idea while taking potato’s out of pan and adding butter, I tossed in 2 handfuls of pine nuts to roast and put on potatos. Mmmmmmm yummy!

This was fantastic! Every cook is different so I did make some modifications. Precook the potatoes in the microwave or boil to give them a head start. After they’ve softened a little, cook in skilet as directed. I cooked my steak in ONLY the butter and olive oil,..then removed and added the herbs and garlic. After a minute, I added the potatoes and beef and tossed to coat. The steak was medium rare and potatoes cooked through. I Pinned this recipe a long time ago but am just now trying. Mad that I’ve waited so long! It was yummy!!

So salty! But otherwise very good. I'd add a splash of red wine to the marinade, and use unsalted butter or low sodium soy... Or substitute olive oil for the butter.

I'm making this tonight. I have a couple of ribeye steaks I need to use. After reading the last two comments, I plan to smash the 5 cloves of garlic and put them in the microwave with EVOO and butter to get the flavor and fragrance without burning the garlic. This recipe looks great and the majority of reviewers were very happy with the results.

  • Ginger

    2021-02-21 19:23:27

The garlic and fresh herbs ended up tasting little scorched, might try it again but add the garlic and herbs when I turn the meat over. Didn't add the potatoes with the steak and I also steam the potatoes for 8 mins for pan frying. Worth trying again

  • Deana

    2021-02-18 18:48:22

This really didn’t work for me. Cooking the meat in the garlic resulted in the garlic burning, no matter how much I tried to baby it and move it around. There was only about 2 tbsp of marinade left to add to the pan, so that was disappointing. The meat tasted okay but the burned garlic really ruined the entire dish. We wont make this one again.

Iam sure, being from a family that thrived on beef 5 times a week, this recipe was tried and eaten with gusto over steamed rice, fresh salad, tadka dal, tomato rasam/pepper pot soup. I love succulent pieces of beef steak when we pressure cook on high heat with the same ingredients except for fried potatoes wedges, cubes. Which are added last to the main course. I am sure that if you ask anyone trying to cook delicious meals with beef, pork, chicken, etc that the meat pieces must be browned properly to seal in the juices. This increases taste, nutrition value, etc. I have two sons and their girl friends who all enjoy beef when cooked as a starter or main course. I hope to copy this recipe soon. Also I hope sincerely you would kindly send /show recipes on my FB App for watching videos. Thanks 👍.
